Community Volunteer Opportunities

Adaptive Sports Association

The Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) is a non profit, year round sports and recreational organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.  ASA offers activities including skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, camping, cycling, fishing and more.

The success of our program is due to volunteers who generously contribute more than 14,000 hours each year.  Hugs, smiles and tears of joy are some of the rewards that our family of volunteers receives.  We are currently looking for volunteers for the 08/09 winter season. This is a great way to earn free skiing while making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities in our area. If you are interested in volunteering with our program or would like more information please contact us at (970) 259-0374 or via email - annmarie@asadurango.com.

Mesa Verde National Park

Community volunteers played a major role in the success of the 2006 Centennial celebration; based on that accomplishment, volunteers will have even more opportunities to contribute in 2008.  Training days are scheduled in April for both continuing activities and new additions.  For more information or to reserve your space at training, call volunteer coordinators Cheryl and Chuck Carson, 259-2699. Come make a unique contribution to your National Park.

Durango Nature Studies

Durango Nature Studies announces its 10-hour Volunteer Naturalist Training for our Surviving and Thriving in Winter Program: January 24th and 25th, 2008. Join 350 alumni as a fully qualified volunteer naturalist, ready to lead science-based nature walks with children covering topics such as habitat, water, plants, insects, and natural history. Nature walks take place at Chris Park; naturalists lead groups of 8-12 elementary school children on weekday mornings Wednesday through Friday from January 30th through February 29th.
